This is our general fund. It provides for a wide variety of department
initiatives and needs.
Custom Copies & Textbooks Graduate Student Graduate Travel Fund
Helps defray costs for graduate students to travel to professional meetings. The Anthropology Department
is very grateful to Kenny Roberts of Orange and Blue Textbooks for establishing this fund and for his
continued support as a Friend of Anthropology.

Patricia Essenpreis Award for Undergraduate Archaeology Research
A scholarship for female undergraduates to attend field school. This endowment is named in memory of Dr.
Patricia Essenpreis, a UF faculty archaeologist. For more information, contact

Brendan O'Sullivan Award for Outstanding Anthropology Undergraduate Majors
A cash gift to honor the highest-ranking major at spring graduation.
This fund was created in memory of Brendan O'Sullivan, who died soon after being named a UF valedictorian in 1999.

Polly and Paul Doughty Graduate Research Award
Supports graduate student summer research in Latin America, focusing on issues of international peace, conflict resolution, and development.
This endowment was established by Paul Doughty, Professor Emeritus, and his wife, Polly.
Charles H. Fairbanks Scholarship
An award to help defray research and dissemination costs for archaeology PhD students in their final year.
This endowment was named in honor of one of the department's founding archaeologists, a founder of the field of historical archaeology. The Anthropology annual spring Armadillo Roast is associated with the bestowing of these scholarships.
John M. Goggin Memorial Scholarship
An award to help defray research costs for PhD students in cultural anthropology, biological anthropology, and linguistic anthropology.
This endowment was named in honor of Dr. John M. Goggin, an eminent archaeologist, specializing in the Spanish Colonial period. He was the first archaeology professor at UF and the first Chair of the Anthropology Department. For more information about Dr. Goggin, visit here.

William R. Maples Memorial Scholarship
To defray research costs for forensic anthropology graduate students.
This scholarship was named in honor of Distinguished Professor William Ross Maples, a pioneer in the field of forensic anthropology and former Director of the C.A. Pound Human Identification Lab. Information about Dr. Maples is available at

Zora Neale Hurston Fellowship
A three-year fellowship for incoming graduate students with interests in the African Diaspora. Established in honor of Zora Neale Hurston, a leading African American anthropology and literary figure of the Harlem Renaissance.
