Keene Faculty Center (Dauer Hall), 7:00pm
The University of Florida, in conjunction with the Department of Anthropology, the Center for Latin American Studies, and the Florida Museum of Natural History, will be welcoming archaeologist Régulo Franco Jordán straight from the coastal deserts of Perú. The researcher will be sharing the secrets of his Proyecto El Brujo's recent find featured in the June 2006 National Geographic - the remarkably preserved mummy "La Señora de Cao." Discovered in the temple of Huaca Cao Viejo, it was revealed that she was buried with riches and offerings befitting a ruler. An anamoly in Peruvian prehistory, a woman who weilded considerable power has risen to give a new face to the Ancient Andean elite.
Join us and also learn about her people - The Moche culture who flourished on the north coast of Peru between 100 and 800 BCE. We will also be treated to a peak of the vivid artistic record of their beliefs and activities.
